Influence of Jiedu Tongluo Injection on free radical metabolism in MACO rats

Abstract: Objective To study the influences of Jiedu Tongluo Injection on the activities of cerebral superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidease (GSH-PX), catalase (CAT) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in rats with middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). Methods The model of MCAO was established in rats by using Koizumi and Nagasawa methods. The cerebral samples were collected and homogenized after cerebral ischemia for 2 h and reperfusion for 24 h. The influences of Jiedu Tongluo Injection on the activities of MDA, SOD, GSH-PX and CAT were observed and detected by using biochemistry methods. Results The activities of SOD, CAT and GSH-PX were promoted and MDA content was reduced in high-dose, mid-dose and low-dose Jiedu Tongluo Injection groups. Conclusion Jiedu Tongluo Injection has preventive effect on free radical injury after cerebral ischemia.
