Abstract: Objective To provide reference for studying on TCM syndromes with cluster analysis and factor analysis. Methods On the base of preliminary factor analysis on TCM four examination information of vascular mild cognitive impairment (MCI), the scores of common factors were calculated. An index cluster analysis was conducted after including 24 common factors as variables into cluster analysis for summing up and finding common syndrome types of vascular MCI. Results The common factor of vascular MCI (n=24) were clustered into 5 types, and there were differentiated, based on clinical experience, as syndrome of kidney deficiency, syndrome of internal obstruction of phlegm-heat, syndrome of qi stagnation and blood stasis, syndrome of spleen-kidney deficiency with internal obstruction of phlegm turbidity, and syndrome yin deficiency with effulgent fire. Conclusion The organic integration of factor analysis and cluster analysis can be more objective in the studies on TCM syndromes.
