Perspective on intestinal microecology using basic theory of TCM*

Abstract: Three elements of material, energy and information, in which human being survive and reproduce, not only exist in external environment of human-nature and human-society, but also in internal environment of human body. Intestinal microecology, an important part of human internal environment, has the correlation with human physiology, pathology and psychology. The balance of intestinal microecology and human body is an interdependence, mutual coordination and restriction system under the interaction of the three elements.Various diseases will occur due to microecological imbalance. With the introduction of TCM, the holism concept, theory of yin-yang, doctrine of viscera state, body constitution theory, healthy qi and pathogen theory, to a certain extent, can be used to interpret the relationship of intestinal microecology and host; furthermore, some digestive system diseases can be treated by the way of improving the intestinal microecology using Chinese medicine. This paper discussed the intestinal microecological balance guided by the basic theory of TCM.
