Abstract: As the original advantages of TCM, “the harmony between the body and mind” and “cultivating both body and mind” embody the holistic view of the principles of Chinese traditional culture. Psychosomatic medicine embodies its practical aesthetics with the idea of cultivating both body and mind and the medical practice, which advocates the beliefs of respecting benevolence and morality, upholding harmony and emphasizing education in traditional Chinese culture. This paper expounds the practical aesthetics of psychosomatic medicine advocating the cultivation of both the body and mind. Firstly, the accumulation of qi forms the body; following the body, shen (mind) generates. The relationship between the body and mind is maintained by “benevolence”, which is the general rule to do a deed. The medical practice of psychosomatic medicine, advocating “the harmony between the body and mind” and “cultivating both body and mind”, embodies the relevance between the body and mind. Secondly, Nourishing shen (mind) requires “keeping a tranquilized mind”, which should be sought in “respect” and cultivating both body and mind. Thirdly, gezhi (studying the nature of phenomena), as one of the carriers of the principles of traditional Chinese culture, guides the understanding of all procedures in TCM diagnosis and treatment by emphasizing “the harmony between the body and mind” and “cultivating both body and mind”. The TCM medical practice, under the guidance of gezhi, reflects the natural beauty of human beings, and the beauty of human nature with physical and mental health, which advocates human relations, respects benevolence and morality, advocates harmony and emphasizes education.
