Abstract: Studies have shown that intestinal flora imbalance is closely related with allergic diseases, yet its specific mechanism remains unclear. Modern medicine considers that it may be associated with increased intestinal permeability and intestinal barrier disruption caused by dendritic cells and other immune cells. Traditional Chinese Medicine identifies three possible approaches, which are “Lungs invaded by evil passing to the large intestine”, “Spleen invaded by evil leading to restricted nutrition and disturbed microenvironment” and “Liver invaded by evil leading to stirred-up wind and disturbed microenvironment”. The root cause is that “Pathogenic factor invades when Zheng Qi is deficient”. This paper explores what intestinal flora research can bring to the allergic constitution study by combining the four fundamental theories “Life course theory”, “Composition of form and spirit”, “Environmental constraint theory”, and “Theory of innate endowment”.

Key words: allergic diseases, food allergies, intestinal flora, allergic constitution, implications
