    Research ideas in Standardized TCM Term Set-Stroke

    The current status of standardization of TCM terms of stroke was studied and research ideas of Standardized TCM Term Set-Stroke were put forward. Through the integration of literature and clinical needs, a database of standardized TCM terms of stroke with simple queries and retrieval function have been established. Then the database was revised and perfected continuously based on experts’ opinions, clinical tests and meeting discussion, and finally Standardized TCM Term Set-Stroke was come into being with completed classification and code compiling, which was suitable to machine language reading and interactive. Standardized TCM Term Set-Stroke promotes the efficacy of machine language reading and completes the clinical information sharing platform and makes the processes of collection, store, exchange and sharing of clinical information more scientific and objective.

    Interpretation of theory of touching by hand and comprehending by mind, one of TCM traumatological manipulations, from angle of cognitive psychology

    The manipulation of touching by hand and comprehending by mind is an important method for diagnosing diseases in TCM traumatology. How to complete touching by hand and comprehending by mind is a difficult proposition. By using the related theory of cognitive psychology to interpret the connotation of this manipulation will found that it is a gradual and refining cognitive process, including tactual perception and information processing in the course of touching by hand, and mental representation, information coding and cognitive model forming in the course of comprehending by mind. The paper tried to discuss the cognitive course of touching by hand and comprehending by mind and sum up initially the cognitive regularity.

    Formula interpretation in various editions of textbook of Formula Study

    Formula interpretation is identified as theoretical explication of formula design mechanism and the important content of formula study course. The paper took the formula interpretations in various editions of textbook of Formula Study as investigating objects, and probed the evolvement track of formula interpretation theory. The authors found out that modern formula interpretations have developed from the appellations, narrative styles, structural patterns and examples. Modern formula interpretation has developed from initial general describing on Chinese medicinal groups based on whole formula action to analysis on combination relations of Chinese medicinal based on formula syndrome pathogenesis and therapies. A paradigm was finally formed with theory of sovereign, minister, assistant and courier medicinal as analysis tools, formula syndrome pathogenesis-therapies-combination principle-formula design features as content and explication of formula design mechanism as objective. In existed textbooks, some problems, including analysis on formula syndrome pathogenesis, determination of sovereign, minister, assistant and courier medicinal, cognition to multidimensional interactive combination and interpretation of one formula with more than one syndromes, need to be studied and standardized.

    Influence of Yougui Capsules on sperm quality in rat model of infertility (kidney yang deficiency) induced by adenine

    Objective To investigate the influence of Yougui Capsules on sperm quality in rat model of infertility (kidney yang deficiency) induced by adenine. Methods The rat model of infertility (kidney yang deficiency) with impaired spermatogenic cells was established through feeding adenine in SD rats. The influences of Yougui Capsules on sperm density, motility rate, vitality and different dynamic parameters were observed by using computer-assisted semen analysis system (CASA). Results Yougui Capsules significantly improved sperm density, sperm motility rate, percentages of A level and B level sperms, sperm curvilinear motion, sperm rectilinear motion, velocity of average pathway and VLH, and percentages of sperm linearity and forward motility. Conclusion Yougui Capsules can significantly improved the sperm quality and fertility in rats with infertility (kidney yang deficiency).

    Amplitude distribution characteristics of surface electromyogram in concrete thinking

    Objective Concrete thinking is a thinking mode paralleling with abstract thinking and imagery thinking. To observe the amplitude distribution characteristics of surface electromyogram (sEMG), and illustrate concrete thinking is a unique thinking mode in which body and mind are closely related to each other through comparing 3 thinking modes with resting state respectively. Methods Three thinking topics were set up, and the subjects were asked to finish, respectively, abstract thinking, imagery thinking and concrete thinking tasks. The sEMG was collected from the subjects, and coefficient of kurtosis and coefficient of skewness of amplitude contribution were calculated in different thinking tasks within 20 s. The sEMG and resting state before thinking task were compared, and the changes of amplitude contribution in different thinking tasks were observed. Results The amplitude contribution had no significant difference in all thinking topics in the comparison between sEMG of abstract thinking or imagery thinking and resting state before thinking task. The amplitude contribution had significant differencein all thinking topics in the comparison between sEMG of concrete thinking and resting state before thinking task. Conclusion The psychological and physical indexes all have changes during concrete thinking, while those have no significant changes during abstract thinking or imagery thinking. Concrete thinking is a unique thinking mode in which mind and body are closely correlated to each other.

    Influence of Qishen Yiqi Gutta Pills on RAAS in rats with heart failure

    Objective To illustrate the improving effect of Qishen Yiqi Gutta Pills on hemodynamics in rats with heart failure after myocardial infarction (MI), and its influence on renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS). Methods The rat model of heart failure after MI was established by using left coronary ligation, and then the rats were randomly divided into sham-operation group, model group, Qishen Yiqi Gutta Pills group and captopril group. The hemodynamic parameters were reviewed by using biological signal processing and analysis system, the content of Ren, AngII and ALD were detected by using radioimmunoassay, and level changes of AngII receptors (AT1 and AT2) and ACE were detected by using Western blot method. Results The results showed that the pathological changes of heart failure after MI occurred 28 d after ligation. Compared with sham-operation group, systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) decreased significantly, and LVSP, +dp/dtmax and -dp/dtmax were significantly lower in model group. RAAS were activated accompanied by the increase of ACE and AT1 and decrease of AT2. SBP and DBP were improved in Qishen Yiqi Gutta Pills group and captopril group (P<0.05) and there was no statistical difference between these 2 groups. LVEDP and -dp /dtmax were up-regulated in Qishen Yiqi Gutta Pills group and captopril group, while in the aspect of inhibiting RAAS activation, Qishen Yiqi Gutta Pills down-regulated Ren and AngII, but had no effect on ALD. Qishen Yiqi Gutta Pills inhibited partly the expressions of AT1 and ACE, and up-regulated significantly AT2 expression. Captopril, as an inhibitor of ACE, had effects on ACE and AT1 mainly and had no effect on AT2. Conclusion Qishen Yiqi Gutta Pills can improve the hemodynamics in rats with heart failure after MI, and the mechanism may be related to that it can inhibit RAAS activation through reducing Ren and AngII, down-regulating ACE and AT1 and increasing AT2.

    Influence of Yinlai Tang on immunity in mice with dyspepsia combining influenza virus infection

    Objective To study the influences of Yinlai Tang on thymus index, lung index, inflammatory reaction of lung tissue, SIgA in lung tissue homogenate and serum immunoglobulin in mice with dyspepsia combining infection of mouse-lung adapted strains of influenza virus (FM1). Methods The rat model of dyspepsia was established by feeding high-fat high-protein fodder and then infected with FM1 nasally for establishing model of dyspepsia combining infection. All rats were randomly divided into normal group, infection group, dyspepsia combining infection group (combining group 1) and dyspepsia combining infection group treated with Yinlai Tang (combining group 2). The influences of Yinlai Tang on thymus index, lung index, histomorphological changes, and content of SIgA in lung tissue, and serum IgM, IgG and IgA were observed. Results The lung tissue had significant inflammatory response in infection group, combining group 1 and combining group 2. The lung index increased significantly in combining group 1 (P<0.05) and decreased significantly in combining group 2 (P<0.05), and thymus index decreased significantly in combining group 1 (P<0.05). The content of SIgA was significantly lower in combining group 1 than that in normal group (P<0.05), and significantly higher in combining group 2 than that in combining group 1 (P<0.05). The concentration of IgM decreased significantly in combining group 1 compared with normal group and infection group (P<0.05), and increased significantly in combining group 2 compared with combining group 1 (P<0.05). The concentration of IgG decreased significantly in combining group 1 compared with normal group and infection group (P<0.05). Conclusion Dyspepsia can reduce the content of SIgA, IgM and IgG and provide the condition for respiratory tract infection. The immune protective effect of Yinlai Tang may be related to thymus, and it can improve the immunity through increasing SIgA content in lung tissue and IgM content in serum.

    Influences of Huangqin Qingre Chubi Fang on content of IL-8, IL-10, TNF-α and visceral indexes in rats with adjuvant arthritis

    Objective To study the influences of Huangqin Qingre Chubi Fang on content of interleukin-8 (IL-8), interleukin-10 (IL-10), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and visceral indexes in rats with adjuvant arthritis (AA). Methods Male SD rats (n=60) were randomly divided into 6 groups (each n=10). The rat model of AA was established with Freund’s complete adjuvant in all groups except of normal group. After modeling for 12 d, different groups were orally given corresponding medicinal once a day for 12 d. The visceral indexes and content of IL-8, IL-10 and TNF-α were detected and compared in all groups. Results After treatment, the content of IL-8 and TNF-α increased significantly (P<0.01), and IL-10 content and visceral indexes decreased significantly (P<0.01) in model group compared with normal group. The content of IL-8 and TNF-α decreased significantly (P<0.05, P<0.01), and IL-10 content and visceral indexes increased significantly (P<0.05, P<0.01) in Huangqin Qingre Chubi Fang group compared with model group, which was more significant in high-dose group (P<0.01). The effective results had no significant difference between high-dose group and GTW Tablet group (P>0.05). Conclusion Huangqin Qingre Chubi Fang can reduce the content of IL-8 and TNF-α and raise visceral indexes and the content of IL-10, and plays a role of anti-inflammation and detumescence in rats with AA.

    Influences of electro-acupuncture on pain-related behaviors and histomorphological changes of spinal nerve root in rat model of lumbar disc herniation

    Objective To establish a rat model of lumbar disc herniation (LDH), and observe the influences of electro-acupuncture (EA) on pain-related behaviors and histomorphological changes of spinal nerve root and dorsal root ganglion (DRG). Methods Male SD rats (n=36) were randomly divided into normal group, model group, sham-operation group and EA group (each n=9). The rat model of LDH was established by using autologous grafting of nucleus pulposus. EA group was treated with EA in Jiaji (EX-B2), Dachangshu (BL25), Guanyuanshu (BL26), Weizhong (BL40) and Kunlun (BL60) of bilateral L4 and L5 once a day and 20 min once for 7 d. After treatment, the changes of rat behaviors were observed and mechanical withdrawal threshold was detected. The morphological changes of spinal nerve root and DRG were detected after HE staining. Results The hyperalgesia was observed in model group 3 d after the operation and the difference was greatly significant compared with sham-operation group and normal group(P<0.01) , and the decrease of pain threshold was lasted for 7 d. The pain threshold increased significantly in EA group especially after the operation for 3 d (P<0.01) and after the operation for 7 d (P<0.05) compared with model group. HE staining results showed that spinal nerve root and DRG had inflammatory edema 3 d after the operation and gradually exacerbated in model group, and after 7 d, disintegration and necrosis of nerve myelin sheath, vacuole-like change in cytoplasm of nerve ganglion cells and disappearing of some nucleus were observed in model group. The degree of edema and necrosis of spinal nerve root and DRG was reduced in EA group compared with model group. Conclusion The rat model of LDH is established successfully, and EA can relieve the damage of spinal nerve root and DRG.

    Correlation between cerebral infarction morbidity and stems, branches and five circuits and six qi or meteorological factors

    Objective To discuss the scientificity of five circuits and six qi in circuit theory, and explore the correlation between cerebral infarction morbidity and meteorological factors based on the cognition of circuit theory to the relationship between circuit of year or six qi and disease morbidity and through analyzing the hospitalization data of patients with cerebral infarction (CI). Methods The hospitalized data of 3832 cases of CI for 12 y were collected from the Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine for calculating the constituent ratio of hospitalized CI cases at different periods of circuit of year to total hospitalized CI cases at the same periods, and analyzing the difference in the constituent ratio of hospitalized CI cases at different periods of circuits or qi. The correlation was studied between hospitalized data at 24 Solar Terms every year and meteorological factors at the same Solar Term or meteorological factors at prior Solar Term. Results The constituent ratio of hospitalized CI cases was the highest at Xin year of waterless-circuit among different Heavenly Stems, and in the third qi among different Dominant qi. The morbidity of MI was positively correlated to average temperature, average vapor pressure and average relative humidity at the same Solar Term, and correlated to average temperature,average vapor pressure, average relative humidity and average low cloudiness at prior Solar Term. Conclusion The morbidity of MI has difference at different Heavenly Stems, circuits and six qi periods, and correlated to meteorological factors.

    Treatment of hemoglobin H disease with Yisui Shengxue Granules in 35 cases

    Objective To investigate the curative effect of Yisui Shengxue Granules on hemoglobin H disease (HbH disease). Methods By applying self-control study, 35 patients with HbH disease (25 with non-defection HbH disease and 10 with defection HbH disease) were given Yisui Shengxue Granules for 3 m. The changes of blood parameters and quantitative scores of TCM syndromes were dynamically detected before and after treatment. The blood parameters included concentration of hemoglobin (Hb), count of RBC, count of reticulocyte (Ret) and content of HbH, and 6 syndromes of liver-kidney yin deficiency syndrome and essence-blood deficiency syndrome were selected including sallow complexion, dizziness and dizzy vision, torpid intake and poor appetite, tidal fever and night sweating, heat in palms and soles, and pale nails. Results From the first month to the third month of treatment, the levels of Hb, RBC and Ret increased significantly (P<0.01) in 35 patients with HbH disease. The levels of Hb and Ret increased significantly (P<0.01) in 25 patients with non-defection HbH disease, and level of Hb increased significantly (P<0.01) in 10 patients with defection HbH disease. From the first month to the third month of treatment, the quantitative scores of sallow complexion, dizziness and dizzy vision, heat in palms and soles, and pale nails decreased (P<0.01) in 35 patients with HbH disease. The quantitative scores of sallow complexion, heat in palms and soles, and pale nails decreased (P<0.01 or P<0.05) in 25 patients with non-defection HbH disease. The quantitative scores of sallow complexion, dizziness and dizzy vision, and tidal fever and night sweating decreased (P<0.01 or P<0.05) in 10 patients with defection HbH disease. After treatment for 3 m, the total effective rate was 62.7% in 35 patients with HbH disease, 60% in patients with defection HbH disease and 64% in patients with non-defection HbH disease. The comparison in effective rate between patients with 2 gene types had no statistical difference. Conclusion Yisui Shengxue Granules, a representative formula for tonifying kidney and marrow, has significant efficacy on HbH disease, which can improve the levels of Hb, RBC and Ret, and relieve TCM symptoms in the patients with HbH disease. The increase of blood parameters is consistent with the relief of TCM syndromes.

    Treatment of erectile dysfunction with Fufang Xianlingpi Tang combining vardenafil

    Objective To observe the difference in the curative effect between Fufang Xianlingpi Tang combining vardenafil and vardenafil lonely in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). Methods The patients (n=120) with ED (kidney yang deficiency combining qi stagnation and blood stasis) were divided into test group and control group. The test group was given granules of Fufang Xianlingpi Tang (24 g/time and 2 times a day) and vardenafil (10 mg) 30 min before sexual life for 6 w, and control group was given vardenafil (10 mg) lonely 30 min before sexual life for 6 w. The scores of IIEF-5, sexual desire, sexual satisfaction and TCM syndromes were taken as reviewing indexes. Results After treatment for 6 w, the scores of IIEF-5, sexual desire and sexual satisfaction increased significantly (P<0.05), and scores of TCM syndromes decreased significantly (P<0.05) in 2 groups. The scores of sexual desire and sexual satisfaction were significantly higher (P<0.05), and scores of TCM syndromes were significantly lower (P<0.05) in test group than those in control group. Conclusion Fufang Xianlingpi Tang combining vardenafil is superior to vardenafil lonely in improving sexual desire and sexual satisfaction, and relieving general symptoms. PDE5-inhibitor combining Chinese medicinal for treating ED is worth of being spread.

    Hemodynamic changes of ovary and uterus and their influences on reproductive hormones in patients with emmeniopathy (excess cold syndrome)

    Objective To observe the hemodynamic changes of ovary and uterus in the patients with emmeniopathy (excess cold syndrome), and discuss the pathogenesis of emmeniopathy (excess cold syndrome). Methods The patients were divided into control group and patient group (each n=30). The hemodynamic parameters of ovary and uterus were detected by using color Doppler ultrasound including peak systolic velocity (PSV), resistance index (RI) and pulsatility index (PI). The content of serum progesterone (P), estradiol (E2), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) were detected by using radioimmunoassay (RIA). All data was compared and analyzed. Results In patient group, the hemodynamic signals of ovary and uterus were relative sparse, flow rate was lower, and PSV decreased significantly (P<0.01), RI and PI increased (P<0.01 or P<0.05), and levels of serum FSH, LH and E2 decreased significantly (P<0.01). Conclusion The abnormal hemodynamics of ovary and uterus and blood hypoperfusion are one of pathological bases of emmeniopathy (excess cold syndrome).

    Brain metabolism material basis of needling meridian acupoints and non-meridian non-acupoints for treating ulcerative colitis: a study based on HNMR metabonomics

    Objective To compare the changes and difference in cortex metabolites in the rats with ulcerative colitis (UC) before and after treated with needling in acupoints in Zuyangming Meridian or needling in non-meridian non-acupoints by applying 1HNMR metabonomics technique, and provide experimental evidence for explaining brain metabolism material basis of acupoint-brain correlation from the aspect of overall metabolism. Methods The rat model of UC was established by using dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) method, and the rats were randomly divided into model group, meridian acupoint group and non-meridian non-acupoint group (each n=13). Other 13 rats were included into control group. The meridian acupoint group was treated with electro-acupuncture (EA) in Shangjuxu (ST37), Tianshu (ST25) and Zusanli (ST36), and non-meridian non-acupoint group was treated with EA in the points aside acupoints (5 mm). After treatment, colorectal and ileocecal tissues were collected for observing pathomorphological changes. The cerebral cortex tissue was isolated for extracting water-soluble and lipid-soluble brain tissue metabolites. The metabolic spectra were obtained by using 1H NMR metabonomics technique, and data was input into SIMCA-P10.0 software package after wave-peak normalization. The data was analyzed by applying principal component analysis combining orthogonal signal correction for obtaining score plots and factor loading plots. Results EA in ST36, ST25 and ST37 had significant influences on brain tissue metabolites especially on water-soluble ones in UC rats induced by DSS. The key metabolites effected by EA were lactate, creatine, N-acetyl aspartic glutamic acid, low density lipoprotein (LDL) and very low density lipoprotein (VLDL), while EA in non-meridian non-acupoints mainly influenced γ-aminobutyric acid and valine. The results indicated that there was difference in brain tissue metabolites between EA in non-meridian non-acupoints and EA in meridian acupoints. Conclusion EA in meridian acupoints and non-meridian non-acupoints have different effects on brain tissue metabolites in UC rats, and the difference in water-soluble metabolites is more significant, and that in lipid-soluble metabolites is not significant. The results indicate that treatment of UC with EA has some brain metabolism material basis.
