Diagnosis and treatment of multiple pulmonary nodules based on collateral disease theory
Pulmonary nodules are common in clinical practice. Early screening of high-risk nodules and intervention are the top priority in the management of this disease. At present
the pathogenesis of pulmonary nodules in the field of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is still under discussion. Based on the theory of collateral diseases in TCM
we suppose that with the effect of internal and external pathogens
the basic pathological basis of pulmonary nodules is qi deficiency accompanied by phlegm and blood stasis in collateral vessels. The key pathogenesis of pulmonary nodules is yang deficiency and yin aggregation in pulmonary collateral vessels. Tumor toxin accumulation is the central cause of pulmonary nodule deterioration. Combined with recent studies of western medicine
we discuss the diagnosis and treatment of medium- to low-risk and high-risk pulmonary nodules. The basic treatment method is reinforcing yang and repressing yin
while dissipating phlegm and blood stasis from the pulmonary collateral vessels based on syndrome differentiations
and common treatments include tonifying qi
warming yang
resolving phlegm and accumulation
and detoxifying to dissipate nodules. Through all of these methods
