摘要:This paper introduces Cultural Anthropology and its basic concepts, methodology and classic research that relates to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) research. Although Cultural Anthropology is quite influential in humanities research in the West, it is still considered a new discipline in China. The authors believe that Cultural Anthropology research holds great potential for the study of TCM and have tried to suggest some new aspects of research.
摘要:In order to investigate the different effects of Banxiaxiexin Decoction (BD) and its different ingredient combinations on gastrointestinal motility in healthy rats and to provide experimental data for generalizing the principles of formulating the formula of BD, the effects of BD and its different ingredient combinations on myoelectric activity of the duodenal smooth muscle were measured, with the amplitude of vibration of the duodenal fast wave and the duration of duodenal fast wave as the experimental criteria. The results showed that the combination of ingredients with sweet taste and regulating action, the combination of ingredients with both pungent taste and resuscitating action and bitter taste and descending action, the combination of ingredients with both pungent taste and resuscitating action and sweet taste and regulating action, and the whole ingredients of BD, could reinforce the amplitude of duodenal fast wave and the duration of duodenal fast wave, while the combination of ingredients with pungent taste and resuscitating action, the combination of ingredients with bitter taste and descending action, and the combination of ingredients with both bitter taste and descending action and sweet taste and regulating action could inhibit the amplitude of duodenal fast wave and the duration of duodenal fast wave.

摘要:Effects of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), protamine sulfate (PS) and Bushenhuoxuexiezhuo Decoction (BD) on the syntheses of protein and heparin sulfate proteoglycan (HSPG) were studied in the cultured glomerular epithelial cell (GEC) of rat, by serum pharmacological method. The results showed that LPS and PS could markedly inhibited the syntheses of protein and sulfur compounds in the cultured GEC of rat, while BD could significantly antagonized the effects of LPS and PS. The results suggest that GEC is important target cell of BD, and exerting effects on GEC may be one of the mechanisms of BD in treating glomerulopathy with proteinuria as the main symptom.
摘要:The inhibitory effects of norcantharidin on neoplastic angiogenesis were investigated by cell morphological observation, drawing of cell growth curve, MTT assay, DNA agarose gel electrophoresis and flow cytometry. The results showed that norcantharidin exhibited a marked inhibitory effect on the growth of human umblilical venous endothelial cells in vitro, in both a time effect manner and a dose effect manner with IC50 equal to 40 μmol/L, and to a certain extent (5~80 μmol/L), there was a positive correlation between the effect and doses. The results of cell morphological observation showed that 24 hours after giving norcantharidin, the number of necrotic cells increased in a concentration effect manner, and the DNA of the cells exhibited diffuse nucleic acid degradation bands but no typical apoptosis bands after agarose gel electrophoresis. Flow cytometry showed that the number of tetraploid cells markedly increased after giving norcantharidin in a concentration effect manner, but there were no remarkable apoptosis peaks. All the results imply that norcantharidin has remarkable cytotoxic effects and can inhibit normal cell division and the growth of human umblilical venous endothelial line in vitro.

摘要:C 57 BL/6 mice were used to establish complex model of hyperuricaemia and hyperlipidemia. The animals were given uric acid and oxonic acid, and 21 days after the administration, the levels of serum uric acid and triglyceride significantly increased ( P <0.05 and P <0.01 respectively) in the drug given group compared with those in the control group. The results suggest that the mouse complex model of hyperuricaemia and hyperlipidemia has been successfully established.
摘要:The effects of TCM drugs for benefiting qi and arresting bleeding (BQAB) on plasmatic and uterine prostaglandin were investigated in rats with TCM syndrome of spleen’s failure to control the blood (SFCB) induced by complex factors, with 6 keto PGF 1α and thromboxane B 2 (TX B 2) as experimental criteria. The results showed that large dose of BQAB drugs could decrease plasmatic and uterine level of 6 keto PGF 1α and the ratio of 6 keto PGF 1α to TX B 2, which implies that the increase of both the level of 6 keto PGF 1α and the ratio of 6 keto PGF 1α to TX B 2 may be one of the important causes of SFCB syndrome.
摘要:The effects of Jinguishenqi Pills (JP) on c fos gene expression in the thalamus and hippocampus were immunohistochemically investigated in the rats with TCM syndrome of the kidney being hurt by fear induced by frightening stimulation. The results showed that frightening stimulation could increase the level of c fos gene expression, and JP exhibited a tendency to control or lower the increased c fos gene expression.

摘要:The effects of the powder of the root of Panax notoginseng (PRPN) on the expressions of 4 oncogene proteins (namely EGFR, C erB 2, H ras and Bcl 2) in gastric mucosa were immunohistochemically investigated in the rats with precancerous lesions induced by a complex method of pylorus spring insertion plus hot paste. It was found that the expressions of the above mentioned 4 oncogene proteins markedly increased in the rats in the model group compared with those in the rats in the normal control group ( P <0.01), while both the positive cell numbers and the expressions of the 4 oncogene proteins markedly decreased in the rats in the PRPN treating group compared with those in the rats in the model group and distilled water group ( P <0.01). The results suggest that there are abnormally increased expressions of the 4 oncogene proteins in gastric mucosa in the rats with precancerous lesions, and maybe PRPN exerts its effects in treating gastric precancerous lesions through decreasing the abnormally increased expressions of the 4 oncogene proteins.

摘要:The effects of small, medium and large doses of Bazhen Decoction (BD) on bone marrow damage and immune depression were investigated in mice suffered from whole body JC60,D,Zo γ ray radiation, 4 Gy for only one time. Compared with the control group, it was found in the radiation group that bone marrow CFU GM colonies decreased to 12 3% of the normal level; T and B lymphocytes proliferation, NK cytotoxic activity and TNF andIFNproductionmarkedlydeclined;splenicCD3 +,CD4 +andCD8 +T lymphocytes percentage and the ratio of CD4 + to CD8 +, and peripheral blood CD3 + and CD4 + T lymphocytes percentage and the ratio of CD4 + to CD8 + increased. The results of BD treatment showed that bone marrow CFU GM colonies were increased by medium and large BD doses to 38%~41% of the normal level; T and B lymphocytes proliferation was restored to the normal level by all the three BD doses in a dose effect manner; NK cytotoxic activity was increased by medium BD dose but not restored to the normal level, but it was further inhibited by small and large BD doses; splenic CD3 +, CD4 + and CD8 + T lymphocytes percentage was decreased by medium BD dose and among them, CD8 + T lymphocytes percentage was restored to the normal level; splenic CD3 + and CD4 + T lymphocytes percentage was decreased by small BD dose; splenic ratio of CD4 + to CD8 + was markedly decreased only by large BD dose, but not restored to the normal level; and IFN production was increased to the normal level and above by all the three BD doses. The results imply that BD enhances cellular immune function, humoral immune function and nonspecific immune function by strengthening lymphocyte function and increasing cytokine production through protecting immune organs from damage, and regulates and controls hematopoiesis through exerting effects on lymphocyte function and cytokine production.
摘要:Analytic data of apoptosis resulted from two softwares, namely ModFit LT and CELLQuest, were compared in a DNA quantitative determination for analyzing apoptosis by propidium iodide staining and flow cytometry. The results showed that although both softwares could be used to analyse apoptosis, ModFit LT was more objective and accurate in the analysis of apoptosis. The authors suggested that ModFit LT be used in quantitative analysis of apoptosis, and CELLQuest be used in qualitative analysis of apoptosis.
摘要:The effects of bloodletting of the 12 hand Jing points on the level of excitatory amino acid (EAA) were observed in the brain of the rat with cerebral ischemia induced by coagulating the left middle cerebral artery. The model rats were divided into the Bloodletting (BL) group and the non bloodletting (NBL) group. The results of the experiment showed that the cerebral EAA level increased in the rats in both groups 0~30 minutes after being induced into cerebral ischemia, and lowered 60~90 minutes after being induced into cerebral ischemia; and compared with that in the rats in the NBL group, the EAA level in the rats in the BL group lowered to a larger extent. The results suggest that the bloodletting of the 12 hand Jing points can lower the increased EAA level caused by cerebral ischemia, and hence may relieve neurotoxicity and protect the brain from damage.
摘要:Congsheng Capsules, which possess the effects of nourishing the liver and kidney, clearing away toxins, dispelling turbidness and dredging meridians and collaterals, were used in this clinical study of treating vascular dementia. Positive drug control and placebo control were set; prospective, random, and double blind methods were adopted; and MMSE and BBS scales were used to evaluate the curative effects. The results showed that Congsheng Capsules could relieve cognitive impairment and behavior disorder in patients with vascular dementia, which implies that Congsheng Capsules are effective in treating vascular dementia. The pathological characteristics of vascular dementia were also discussed in the study.
摘要:Cases of acute cerebral infarction were included in a study for investigating the effects of TCM therapy of dispelling turbidness by aromatic drugs and eliminating phlegm for resuscitation on acute cerebral infarction. The patients were randomly divided into groups according to the single blind controlled design. The treating group was given Xingnao Injection and the controlled group was given Danshen Injection; and the levels of plasmatic ET, TNF α and NO were measured before and after the treatment. The results showed that compared with those in the controlled group, the levels of the above mentioned three criteria significantly decreased in the treating group ( P <0 05), which implies that TCM therapy of dispelling turbidness by aromatic drugs and eliminating phlegm for resuscitation plays a role of protecting neurons in the treatment of acute cerebral infarction.
