To inherit and develop the academic legacy of esteemed senior traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) experts, China Association of Chinese Medicine Blood Disease Branch and Hematological Diseases′ Innovative Research and Transformation Platform of China Association of Chinese Medicine summarized the clinical diagnostic and treatment philosophies of five distinguished professors, including QIU Zhongchuan, CHEN Xinyi, ZHOU Yongming, CHEN Zhixiong, and LI Tie. For bone marrow failure diseases, Professor QIU Zhongchuan emphasizes kidney tonification as the central approach while also considering the spleen and stomach and maintaining a balance among qi, blood, yin, and yang. For myeloproliferative diseases, he advocates a staged and sequential TCM treatment, tailoring treatments dynamically to patients′ changing syndromes. Professor CHEN Xinyi pioneered the establishment of the "integration system of TCM prevention and treatment in acute myeloid leukemia, "where he defined the concept of "spleen generating blood" to include broader interpretations such as spleen-containing blood, spleen-engendering blood, and spleen-holding blood. His propositions on the pathogenesis theories of "toxin damaging bone marrow" and "phlegm and blood stasis obstruction" enrich the understanding of blood diseases in TCM. Professor ZHOU Yongming introduced the theory of "spleen kidney qi fire" and proposed the method of "strengthening the spleen, tonifying the kidney, and promoting blood circulation." These theories have been refined through continuous clinical practice. Professor CHEN Zhixiong developed a precise differentiation of TCM patterns to diagnostic and treatment framework for blood disorders in southern China, incorporating diverse theoretical foundations to tailor his approach. Professor LI Tie focused on the application of blood medicines in the diagnosis and treatment of blood diseases, emphasizing the importance of "tongue diagnosis and differentiation" in diagnosis and treatment and emphasizing the application of the "harmony" methods in clinical practice. The objective of documenting, analyzing, and disseminating the academic thoughts and clinical experiences of these prominent TCM experts is to cultivate a new generation of talent in TCM hematology, strengthen the academic and clinical foundations of the discipline, and foster the inheritance, innovation, and advancement of TCM.
