Objective To investigate the influence of therapy of tonifying spleen and replenishing kidney on level of serum leptin（LP） in patients with maintainance hemodialysis（MHD）

and discuss the mechanism of the therapy in treating malnutrition of MHD patients.Methods The patients（n = 60

male 25 and female 35） were randomly divided into treatment group and control group

and other health persons（n = 30） were chosen as normal group.The treatment group was treated with therapy of tonifying spleen and replenishing kidney

and other 2 groups were given placebo for 6 m.The level of serum LP was compared in 3 groups before and after treatment.The changes of LP

hemoglobin（Hb）

serum albumin and cholesterol（CH） were observed before and after treatment.Results The level of LP was significantly lower in normal group than that in other 2 groups before and after treatment（P < 0.05）

and decreased significantly in treatment group after treatment（P < 0.05）.The scores of SGA

symptom scores

and levels of serum albumin and CH were improved in treatment group after treatment（P <0.05）.Conclusion The therapy of tonifying spleen and replenishing kidney can effectively reduce the level of LP and improve nutritional status in patients with MHD.
